Abstract: [Abstract] Objective To establish the normal values of insular lobe morphology in Chinese people, for diagnosing insular psychiatric diseases.
Methods A total of 75 healthy volunteers were enrolled in the study. MRI of the head were performed to measure and analyze the morphological data of the subtropical lobes, including the subcortical, white matter, and sulcus width values. Morphological data was compared and analyzed.
Results The length of transverse sulcus had significant difference among different age groups(P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the width of subcortex, white matter and sulcus among the other dominant cerebral hemispheres(P>0.05).
Conclusion The insular lobe belongs to the lower level of brain lobe. Its morphological parameters are less affected by age and the measured values are stable. Therefore, it may be a reliable index for the study of brain mental disorders.
