Abstract: [Abstract] Objective〖HTSS〗〓To study the value of optical coherence tomography(OCT) measurement of the retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL) and the macular thickness in the early diagnosis of primary open angle glaucoma(POAG).
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Methods〖HTSS〗〓In the casecontrol study, normal eyes(30 cases, 40 eyes), ocular hypertension without risk factor(35 cases, 40 eyes), ocular hypertension with risk factor(38 cases, 40 eyes) and primary open angle glaucoma(38 cases, 40 eyes) were examined with Spectralis SDOCT to obtain the RNFL thickness and the macular thickness. All parameters were observed including superior, inferior, nasal and temporal quadrants and the mean RNFL thickness, also including superior, inferior and the total average macular thickness. Measurement results were analyzed and were compared.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Results〖HTSS〗〓No significant difference in the RNFL and macular thickness were found between normal group and the group of ocular hypertension without risk factor(P>005). The RNFL and macular thickness in the group of ocular hypertension with risk factor was lower than that in the normal group and the group of ocular hypertension without risk factor(P<005). The RNFL and macular thickness in the POAG group was lower than that in the other three groups(P<005).
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Conclusion〖HTSS〗〓Optic nerve damage of early glaucoma and ocular hypertension with risk factor can be observed and quantitatively measured by optical coherence tomography. OCT has clear significance for the early diagnosis of POAG, which can provide important reference for the early treatment of ocular hypertension with risk factor.
