Abstract: [Abstract] Objective〖HTSS〗〓To evaluate the efficacy and safety of pantoprazole in the treatment of aspirin related peptic ulcers in elderly hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Methods〖HTSS〗〓The elderly hypertensive patients(n=98) with diabetes mellitus suffering peptic ulcer caused by lowdose aspirin were chosen, and then randomly divided into observation group and control group(each n=49). The observation group was given pantoprazole and the control group was given ranitidine. Endoscopy was performed after 4 weeks treatment and telephone followup was performed after 6 months treatment. The gastrointestinal symptoms, changes in endoscopic mucosal, and adverse effects including major adverse cardiovascular events were compared between two groups.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Results〖HTSS〗〓Endoscopic mucosal healing rate(97.96%) of the observation group was higher than that of the control group(83.67%), and the incidence of gastrointestinal symptoms(10.20%) and the incidence of adverse reactions(12.24%) of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group(26.53%, 28.57%) after 4 weeks of treatment(P<005). The incidence of gastrointestinal symptoms and adverse reactions in the observation group was 8.16% and 14.28% respectively, which were lower than those of the control group(24.49%, 32.65%) after 6 months treatment (P<005).
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Conclusion〖HTSS〗〓Pantoprazole is effective and tolerable in the treatment of aspirin related peptic ulcer in elderly hypertensive patients with diabetes mellitus. It is worthy of clinical promotion.
