Epidemiological analysis of jellyfish stings in 2 577 cases in Qinhuangdao#br#

Abstract: [Abstract] Objective〖HTSS〗〓To analyze the epidemiological data and clinical features of jellyfish stings, and to provide scientific basis for prophylaxes,  diagnosis and treatment.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Methods〖HTSS〗〓The 2 577 clinical cases of jellyfish stings in Beidaihe hospital of Qinhuangdao were restrospectively analyzed. The epidemiological characteristics, clinical symptom, diagnosis, treatment method and prognosis were included in the descriptive statistical analysis.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Results〖HTSS〗〓Of the 2 577 cases, there were 1 313 children, 1 264 adults, aged from 0.5 to 78 years(male 1 508, female 1 069).  Lower limbs were most frequently stinged, account for 70.94%. The majority of jellyfish stings were mild in 2 536 patients(98.41%), 33 in moderate patients(1.28%), and 8 in severe patients(0.31%), with no deaths. In recent 3 years, the number of jellyfish stings cases has been decreasing year by year.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Conclusion〖HTSS〗〓Jellyfish stings should be based on prevention, and effective preventive measures can significantly reduce the incidence. The treatment should be foccured on the anaphylactic reaction and local processing in therapy and preventing  the complication in order to decrease fatality rate.
