Abstract: Objective To investigate the effect of glutamine on prevention and treatment of neonate upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage( UGH). Methods There were 171 neonates with risk factors for upper digestive tract hemorrhage were randomly grouped,89 cases as treatment group intravenous omeprazole and oral glutamine were given,82 cases as control group intravenous omeprazole given only. The incidence of UGH and the time of UGH between two groups were compared. Results The incidence of upper gastrointestinal bleeding in treatment group and control group showed significant difference (χ2 =3 . 917 ,P﹤0 . 05 ),gastrointestinal bleeding cases showed significant difference in hemostasia time ( t=2 . 836 ,P﹤0 . 05 ). Conclusion Oral glutamine has effect both on prevention and treatment of UGH with safety.
