Expression of CEACAM l and VEGF in mucoepidermoid carcinoma of salivary glands and its effect on angiogenesis

Abstract: Abstract]Objective〖HTSS〗〓To investigate the relationship of carcinoembryonic antigen related cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) and vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) expression with angiogenesis in mucoepidermoid carcinoma(MEC) of salivary glands.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Methods〖HTSS〗〓The expression of CEACAM1 and VEGF was detected with immunohistochemcal method streptavidinperosidase (SP) in 70 cases of MEC tissues,and 20 cases of normal salivary gland,the microvessel density(MVD) was recorded under optical microscope.
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Results〖HTSS〗〓The positive expressions of CEACAM1 protein (34.3% vs 70.0%) was lower in MEC group than those in normal salivary gland group(P<005),the positive expressions of  VEGF protein (71.4% vs10.0%) was higher in MEC group than those in  normal salivary gland group(P<005). In MEC group,the positive expressions of CEACAM1 protein in pathological grade levelⅢ patients were lower than those in pathological grade level Ⅰ+Ⅱ patients(P<005),the positive expressions of CEACAM1 protein in TNM stage Ⅲ+Ⅳpatients were lower than those in TNM stageⅠ+Ⅱ patients(P<005),the positive expressions of CEACAM1 protein in patients with lymph node metastasis were lower than that in patients without lymph node metastasis(P<005). The positive expressions of VEGF protein and MVD in pathological grade level Ⅲpatients were higher than those in pathological grade level Ⅰ+Ⅱpatients(P<005),the positive expressions of VEGF protein and MVD in TNM stage Ⅲ+Ⅳ patients were higher than those in TNM stage Ⅰ+Ⅱpatients(P<005),the positive expressions of VEGF protein and MVD in patients with lymph node metastasis were higher than that in patients without lymph node metastasis(P<005).
〖HTH〗〖WTHZ〗Conclusion〖HTSS〗〓Downregulationg of CEACAM1 in MEC of salivary glands may play a role in angiogenesis through increasing the expression of VEGF,thus promote tumor invasion and metastasis.
