Abstract: Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of fatty liver(FL),and clarify the relationship between FL and other components of metabolic syndrome among medical staffs in the general hospitals of Shijiazhuang. Methods A retrospective study was performed to analyze the prevalence and related risk factors of FL in 1 428 medical stuffs who continuously participated in health examination in the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University. Background variables for the analysis included gender, age, body mass index (BMI),laboratory tests and abdominal ultrasound examination. Results The FL prevalence was increasing with age before 70 years old and higher in male than female among the participants younger than 60 years old(χ2=185.787,P <0.01).Logistic multivariant regression analysis indicated that the incidence of FL was correlated to gender, age,BMI,systolic pressure, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood sugar, total cholesterol and triglycerides. Conclusion There is a high incidence of FL in the medical staffs of general hospitals of Shijiazhuang, and BMI,blood glucose and triglycerides correlated with FL prevalence.BMI is an independent predictor for morbidity and recovery of FL.
