Objective To understand the mechanisms by which dexamethasone induces osteoporosis and Tonifying Kindey Recipe prevents dexamethasone-induced osteoporosis.Methods Thirty six Wistar rats were divided into three groups: control group was injected with 0.9 % sodium chloride solution; dexamethasone group (DEX) and Tonifying Kindey Recipe group(TKR) were injected with dexamethasone (0.1 mg/100g weight) twice a week， and were administrated water and Tonifying Kindey Recipe (0.32 g/100 g weight) at the same time respectively.After 12 weeks the rats were killed and the total mRNA was extracted from bone. The expression of vitamin D receptor (VDR) was semi-quantified by RT-PCR.Results The bone mineral density was decreased and the expression of VDR mRNA of the rats in DEX group was increased significantly. The bone mineral density of the rats in TKR was augmented and the expression of VDR mRNA was attenuated compared with DEX group.Conclusion The up-regulating expression of VDR mRNA by dexamethasone may be one of the mechanisms by which dexamethasone induced osteoporosis.Tonifying Kindey Recipe may prevent dexamethasone-induced osteoporosis by down-regulating expression of VDR mRNA.

Objective To explore the possible role and mechanism of extracellular matrix in the invasion and metastasis of breast cancer.Methods The expression of laminin and collagenⅣ in 50 cases of breast carcinoma and 23 axillary lymph nodes with metastasis was immunohistochemically detected.Results By Immunohistochemical staining, the tissues of breast carcinoma showed negative reaction for collagenⅣ and laminin or positive reaction in interrupted linear pattern or fragmentary pattern, without continuous linear pattern as shown in normal tissues and benign lesions of the breast. The expressions of collagen Ⅳ and laminin were correlated with the histological grading(P<0.01), metastasis (P<0.01) and pathologic mitosis(P<0.05) of breast carcinoma, but no correlation was found between the expressions and the histological type, tumor size and intravascular cancer cell emboli. In the metastatic focus, the positive staining for laminin was observed in tumor cell cytoplasm and extracellular matrix in fragmentary pattern.Conclusion Extracellular matrix is reducted with the tumor progression,and significantly correlated with the differentiation,metastasis and pathologic mitosis of breast carcinomas, indicating that poorly differentiated tumors with more mitosis and great potential to metastasize has stronger ability to destroy basement membranes. Some cancer cells are able to synthesize components of basement membrane, which may be responsible for the invasive activity of tumor cells.

Objective To observe the regulatory effects of fermented decoction of Liuweidihuang（LWDH）on the reactions of nonspecific immunity, cellular immunity and humoral immunity.Methods The immunomodulating activity of fermented decoction of LWDH was studied by carbon clearance test, delayed type hypersensitive reaction (DTHR) induced by DNFB and hemolysin antibody test.Results Femented decoction of LWDH 300mg/(kg*d)(for 14 d) enchanced the DTHR and increased the content of serum hemolysin antibody markedly(P<0.05 compared with decoction of LWDH),but had no significant effect on the carbon phagocytic index.Conclusion The improving effects of fermented decoction of LWDH on the cellular immunity and humoral immunity were potent than those of decoction of LWDH.

Objective The present paper introduces an integrated method for stereotaxic operation on the rat brain, using three different procedures for correcting the brain targeting site.Methods Before the ordinary method for correcting the target site ,on the stereotaxic instrument the target site was exposured and the stereotaxic coordinates were corrected in fixed brain , and then unfixed brain, respectively.Results As the application of three methods is set up,the defect of every method can be removed and the course of experiment can be shorten,so the efficiency of the tanget site in the rat brainon stereotaxic coordinates is improved.Conclusion With fewer animals and fewer preliminary tests the brain target site can be corrected accurately.

Objective To compare the efficacy of Ninghongxin(a kind of domestic rhu-EPO) and Lixuebao in treatment of renal anemia.Methods 120 patients with renal anemia were randomly divided to receive Ninghongxin (n=60) in a dose of 2000U,three times every week for 12 weeks, and Lixuebao (n=60) in a dose of 3000U,twice every week for 12 weeks.Results After treatment, the total effective rate of Ninghongxin was 86.7 %，the effective rate was 55 %.The total effective rate of Lixuebao was 85 %, the effective rate was 50 %.There is no significant difference between all parameters of the two groups.Conclusion The study showed that the efficacy of Ninghongxin in the treatment of renal anemia is as effective as those of Lixuebao in doses stated above.

Objective To evaluate the clinical valuation and effect of Aotaile infusion on irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).Methods Inverstigate the effect of 58 cases treated with Aotaile infusion for 2 weeks in comparing with the control group treated with Bifico and investigated to the effect of Aotaile on the spastic colon of rabbit was induced by acetylcholine and BaCl2. Results The total effective rate by Aotaile infusion reached 89.66 % and by Bifico reached 65 % (P<0.001).Which was inverstigated to Aotaile markedly improved spastic colon of rabbit's was induced by acetylcholine and BaCl2 in vitr.Conclusion It is one of the effective Chinese drugs for the treatment of IBS.

Objective To study the effect of alginate purity on implanted microcapsules and the function of human fetal parathyroid tissue in microcapsules.Methods Microcapsules and microencapsulated human fetal parathyroid tissue produced with purified and unpurified alginate were xenografted into the peritoneal of mice which were divided into 4 groups. Transplanted empty microcapsules were established as control. Human parathyroid was measured to identify the secretory function of microcapsulated human parathyroid and the morphological changes of microcapsulated tissue were observed.Results Two months after transplantation, there are significant differences in secreting function of microencapsulated parathyroid tissue between purified and unpurified groups(P＜0.05),(38.8±13.7) pg/ml and (1.2±0.7) pg/ml respectively. The retrieve rates of purified and unpurified alginate empty microcapsules are （72±18）% and (24±13）%，（65±21）% and 0 respectively after 1 and 2 months of transplantation.Conclusion Microcapsules produced with purified alginate have good biocompatibility, the survival time of parathyroid tissue in the purified microcapsules was prolonged significantly.

Objective To evaluate the significance of transvaginal ultrasonography in the diagnosis and treatment of bleeding after abortion with mifepristone.Methods The bleeding causes in 188 cases after medical abortion were analyzed according to the characteristics of transvaginal utero(ovarian ultrasonogram, the pathological changes of endometrium, and the levels of estradiol(E2) and progesterone(P) in the plasm of patients. The different treatments were given based on transvaginal utero-ovarian ultrasonogram.Results Of 158 cases with uterogenic bleeding after medical abortion, the ovarian ultrasonograms of 67 cases (43.6 %) showed corpus luteum cyst. On the contrary, no corpus luteum cyst was found in the control group (30 cases). The level of estradiol(E2) of patients in group B (cases with ovarian corpus luteum cyst)was much higher than that in group A （ cases without corpus luteum cyst）(P<0.001). During the clinical treatment,the duration of bleeding of the patients in group B was longer than that in group A. In addition, the bleeding of patients in group B stopped after disappearance of corpus luteum cyst.Conclusion The ovarian corpus luteum persisting and secreting the estrogen and progestogen is one of the causes of bleeding after abortion with mifepristone. The transvaginal ultasonography not only can be used for choosing the patients of medical abortion and for evaluating the effect of abortion, but also can suggest the bleeding causes after abortion with mifepristone and guide the treatment.

Objective To investigate the function of blood flow dynamic factors in nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy(NAION).Methods The brachial artery blood pressure, optic artery blood pressure and intraocular pressure (IOP) in 48 patients (50 eyes) with NAION and 50 patients (50 eyes) without NAION were comparatively studied.Results Both the systolic and diastolic pressure of the brachial artery and optic artery in NAION group were significantly lower than those in non-NAION group (P<0.05), while the IOP in the NAION group was significantly higher than that in non-NAION group (P<0.05).Both the differences between the optic artery systolic pressure and IOP and bwteen the optic artery diastolic pressure and IOP in NAION group were significantly lower than those in non-NAION group (P<0.01).Conclusion The relative hypotension and high IOP, and the imbalance between the optic artery blood pressure and IOP were the important causes in NAION.

Objective To evaluate the significance of bioelectrical impendance analysis in the measurement of body fat.Methods The body fat was determined by using bioelectrical impendance analysis and triceps skinfold (TSF) methods in 129 cases waiting for operation.Results The result of body fat obtained by bioelectrical impendence analysis and TSF metheds have significant corelation.(Men r=0.773,P<0.05;Women r=0.5,P<0.001).There are no notable difference between the two methods for the determination of over body fat,normal body fat and emaciation in the 129 cases (Kappa=0.547,P<0.05).Conclusion Measurement of body fat by bioelectrical impendance analysis is a pratical way with reliable result.

Objective To explore the significance of plasma oxidized modified low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) in diabetes mellitus(DM) with atherosclerosis.Methods The levels of plasma ox-LDL were measured by enzyme-link immunoabsorbent assay(ELISA) in 90 patients with DM and 30 controls.Results The plasma ox-LDL level in patients with DM was significantly higher than that in normal controls. Type two DM patients showed higher ox-LDL level than type one DM patients.Higher ox-LDL levels could be found in patients with vascular complications and the patients with longer clinical course.Plasma ox-LDL was correlated with fast blood-sugar in DM patients.Conclusion ox-LDL plays an important role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in DM patients.Proper uses of antioxidants may prevent the DM patients from occurance of atherosclerotic complication or slow down the pathological process.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of in 99Tcm-methoxyisobutyl isonitrile(99Tcm-MIBI) viral myocarditis.Methods The routine rest and stress 99Tcm-MIBI SPECT were performed in 29 viral myocarditis patients and 15 normal controls.Results 13 patients (44.8 %) showed diffuse decreasing of radiodistribution,15 patients (51.7 %) showed focal decreasing of radiodistribution.Conclusion The results indicated that the 99Tcm-MIBI tomography has practical clinical value in diagnosis of viral myocarditis.
